Special Education: The Special Education Department is committed to providing appropriate individualized special education services for children ages three through twenty-one with disabilities who live within the Elizabethtown City School boundaries. We support the mission of the Elizabethtown Independent School District and the goals of the Education Services Department by identifying students with disabilities and providing them an equal opportunity for a free and appropriate education so that disabled students in the Elizabethtown Independent Schools are adequately prepared for transition into their next environment and are prepared to meet success at their next endeavor.

504 Programming: Compliant with Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 504 programming will be provided by the Elizabethtown Independent School District , upon meeting eligibility requirements. Section 504 is a non-discrimination statute meant to protect the right of access and opportunity for individuals with disabilities. Section 504 various disabilities such as dyslexia, diabetes, and others which limit a “life function”.

Preschool Program: The Panther Preschool Program is open to children ages 3 and 4 that have a disability or developmental delay as well as children who are age 4 by October 1, 2005 and are eligible for the free lunch program. Eligibility may be determined by contacting the Preschool Office at 270-769-3960.  Panther preschool provides half-day program to all eligible three year olds and the option of full or half-day programming for all eligible four year olds.  

Extended School Service Programs: ESS programs are provided to all eligible children at Morningside Elementary, Helmwood Heights Elementary, T.K. Stone Middle, Elizabethtown High School and Valley View Learning Center .  These programs have school-based coordinators that serve to coordinate the ESS program at each school.
